The TAMU Medical and Dental Society had a banner year, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our loyal members.

 

The Society presented four undergraduate scholarships during our annual Fall Social and Tailgate  held  October 5 -6, 2007.  Scholarship recipients for 2007 were Bhavini Patel, Christi Hahn, Kelly Martinez, and Alfredo Echeverria. The event was attended by students, alumni  and family.  It was a perfect opportunity for Aggies to establish new friendships and rekindle old ones. A truly special part of the day was the presentation of the first Walker Best Scholarship to Christi Hahn by Dr. and Mrs. Best in remembrance of their son Walker. Although Walker is no longer with us, Aggie Spirit rallied to create, in his memory, our largest endowed scholarship. His legacy will live through this endowment and the funding it will provide future students.

 

Our board continues to improve the organization through technology and manpower. The society has a new web site www.aggiedocs.com.  Please go to the site to obtain membership informatiion as well as registration information for any of our events. The site will also carry news of our activities, scholarship information and instructions on our mentoring program.

 

We are also very pleased to have Mark Barhorst, M.D. as a new board member. Dr. Barhorst  practices pain management medicine and resides in Cypress, Texas.

The goals of the society for the upcoming year are to continue our push to add new members and grow our endowed scholarships. We will continue to upgrade our website and add new talent to our board. Please renew your membership and pass along a membership application to a colleague that has not yet joined the Society.

 

Our 2008 social and tailgate is scheduled for Oct 17-18, 2008 where the Fighting Texas Aggies will host Texas Tech. Keep an eye out for event registration. The society will reserve a block of rooms at area hotels and can assist you in acquiring tickets for the game.
